When high school students are planning their career paths, teachers and parents are always the ones to provide guidance to these inexperience. To offer an opportunity for them to have better understand of the ever-changing working environment, the Hong Kong University Graduates Association Education Foundation (HKUGAEF) organized a meaningful event called “Life and Career Education (LCE) Forum” in Queen Elizabeth School on 7 May 2016, Saturday. 9 Corporations from different industries were invited to share their business models and career path for youngsters. As a leading IT software and service provider based and listed in Hong Kong, Computer And Technologies Holdings Limited (C&T) was invited to represent IT industry.
Over 120 people, including secondary school principals, career guidance and parent representatives participated in the Forum. Our Vice President, Mr. Steve Yeung and Group Human Resources Manager, Mr. Samuel Wong have joined the event and shared career path in IT industry to the audience.
The forum was divided into 2 sessions. The first part was a brief sharing session in the school assembly hall. In which, each of the participating corporations gave a brief introduction of the industry/ corporation and the possible work opportunities. Steve representing C&T, gave an insightful speech with live stories to participants.
In the presentation, Steve shared corporate’s visions with working environment to participants. To illustrate how C&T products, services and solutions are widely adopted by local enterprises, government departments to multi-national firms, he applied “Clothing, Food, Accommodation + Transportation” and “Matter of life and death” as samples with supportive evidence in speech.
For the second part of the forum, participants were divided into 9 small groups to attend a workshop conducted by the Corporations in separate classrooms. Over 20 audience attended the workshop conducted by C&T. During the session, Steve recapped main points in his presentation and led the discussion. Participants shared their thoughts and queries about the industry with enthusiasm. In the session related to human resources, Samuel analyzed the psychologies and behaviors of youngsters nowadays, and suggested possible employment opportunities in career. Through overwhelming discussion in the group, participants had better understanding of how IT industry operate and necessary guidance for their young fellows in career planning.
Excellent presentations has greatly inspired the audience with far reaching effects to assist life and career planning in young generations. By sharing real-life and career growth in IT industry, we all hope that not only youngster, but also their guidance can get a thorough understanding about a fabulous sector in Hong Kong.
